I’ve been asked several times by my students if taking the SAT or ACT in November or December of their senior year is too late. The answer is — no it’s NOT TOO LATE! Many colleges superscore standardized tests (the process where colleges take the highest section score from each test attempt and combine them into one, higher, “superscore”). If you’d like one last chance to bring your score up, then this is it. If it’s your first time taking the SAT or ACT I would not, however, recommend that you wait until November or December of your senior year to take the test. What if you were ill on the test date, forgot to set your alarm that morning, got a flat tire on the way there, or didn’t sleep well the night before? That’s a risk you wouldn’t want to take.
One very important thing to keep in mind if you decide to take the SAT or ACT this December is to make sure you put down the colleges you want to receive your score when you register for the test. Don’t wait until your scores come out and then send them because it will probably be too late!
